10 Minute Wine Tips: Does Price Matter?

**10 Minute Wine Tips: Does Price Matter?**

In this video, I talk about the price of wine and whether or not it matters. I often get asked this question, and my answer is always the same: **No, price does not matter!** Great wine can be found at all price points. Just because a wine is inexpensive does not mean that it is not good or of high quality.

In this video, I share the price points for my favorite grape varietal, Syrah, ranging from low to high. We start with the very reasonable **Her Shiraz**, which retails for R100 ($6) at Woolworths in South Africa. This is my go-to house wine and I can open it up and enjoy guilt-free on any random day with friends.

Next, we move on to **Strandveld**, which retails for R240 ($13). This winery is located in the southern most wine region in South Africa, called Elim. It is an elegant cool climate Syrah that is perfect for a gathering like a braai (barbecue).

One of my favorite wines is **Mullineux Syrah**, which retails for R450 ($24). I love this wine for impressing at a dinner party or for laying down in your cellar. It is a bit more expensive, but it is definitely worth the price.

Buy It

Last but certainly not least, we have the **Black Lion by De Toren Private Wine Cellars**. Coming in at a whopping R3,666 ($196) per bottle, every drop is worth the price. Everything is done by hand when making this wine. The Syrah grapes go through a very strict berry by berry selection process, and the wine is literally crushed using feet. This is definitely not your everyday drinking wine. It is made to age well and can be enjoyed even 10 years after the vintage date.

**Key takeaways:**

* Don’t be afraid to try wines at different price points.
* Buy for the occasion.
* The quality of the wine is what’s most important.
* Stories matter.
