New Summer Releases from the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail .::. FLX Weekly 6/28/23

Katherine Chase is back in-studio to sample some of the new releases from the wineries of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail as we head into Fourth of July Weekend here in the Finger Lakes!

Red, White, and Blue – New Summer Releases

Red-
Co-ferment rose from Montezuma’s voleur series, this is called Grayscale (funky and different wine category)
• Typically, a wine with multiple grapes are fermented invidiualy, this one they were fermented together.
• Co ferment-all juice is fermented together, saignee rose, bleed wine, pinot gris, pinot noir, black and white + gray
• Pinot gris is ski ferment 60%
• Pinot noir 40%
• Totally fermented with wild culture. No filtration, no fining, that’s why is hazy. Stayed on the fine lees for several
months.
• Juicy, creamy, and crisp with aromas of strawberry, watermelon, and blood orange.

White
Releasing this Saturday to the public, 2022 Barrel Fermented Riesling from Knapp.
• We met the winemaker Vanessa awhile back.
• She took some of her favorite juice from 2022 and transferred into barrels and fermented it there.
• Then she left it on the lees and stirred it for 8 months to give it extra mouthfeel and texture
• Very dry with lots of character
• Vanessa herself designed the label

Blue
Rhapsody, Americana Vineyards- a Dry Blueberry Wine.
• Aged in stainless steel
• Deep color from extended fermentation time on the blueberry skins
• Body is complex, elegant, and punctuated with rich tannins, softened by the flavr of smooth blueberry juice
• This would pair nicely with brie or cream cheese on fresh baked bread, nuts and fruits.
• Smoked meats, spicy tomato sauce and steak
• This is a dry wine with 1.5 RS
Knapp is also releasing on Saturday an orange wine, Siegerrege, it’s a very small batch.
It’s hand picked, foot stomped, whole cluster, unfined and unfiltered

July 4th weekend events:
• Thursday the 29th kicks off the weekend with Nautie Summer nights at Lucas, with the Backtalk Band
• Knapp is releasing the 2 new wines and has Music on Saturday the 1st from 1 to 4 by Hot Dogs and Gin
• There’s also music at Buttonwood Grove, Rita Venuti and John Blume
• Sunday has Vinyasa in the Vineyard at Hosmer, followed by Music and mimosas with Rachel Beverly
• Buttonwood has afternoon music again with Michaell Reed
