Red wine floods the streets of small Portuguese town

A Portuguese distillery has flooded an entire town with red wine.

More than 2 million litres of red wine rushed through the streets of São Lourenço and down its hills.

The town in the country’s north was flooded after two wine tanks at the Levira Distillery suddenly gave way.

The spill was so massive that the river of red could have filled an entire Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Local authorities were quick to stop the rushing wine before it could surge into a nearby river, triggering an environmental catastrophe.
